AKM, DNSU extend support to ASU, condemns violation of human rights

Mokokchung/Dimapur: DNSU seeks prompt and transparent response from AR, detailing concrete actions to address grave breach of conduct

The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) and the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) have condemned the “physical assault” on the President of the Angami Students’ Union (ASU) on Friday by the 13th Assam Rifles, calling it violation of human rights. In separate statements, the student bodies have extended their support to ASU at this critical time.

The AKM’s President Lanutoshi Aier and General Secretary Satemmongba stated that it strongly condemns any form of harassment or violence directed towards student leaders and urges the authorities to take swift action against those responsible. It also appealed the state government and relevant authorities to ensure the safety and security of student leaders across Nagaland.

Further, the Ao Students’ Conference called on the Assam Rifles and other paramilitary forces to respect the democratic rights of the people and to refrain from any activities that could escalate tensions in the region

Supporting ASU’s call for an immediate shutter down and indefinite bandh in all Angami-inhabited areas starting from the 10th August 2024, AKM has appealed to the public to stand united with the Union during this critical time and to adhere to the bandh in support of justice and the protection of our rights

Meanwhile, the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union’s President Hinoto P Aomi and General Secretary Michael Kath stated that the assault on the President of Angami Students’ Union (ASU) “constitutes a flagrant disregard for human rights and underscores the alarming distrust between security forces and the communities they are sworn to protect.”

Urging the authorities to launch a comprehensive and impartial investigation into this incident, ensuring accountability and disciplinary action for the guity, DNSU stressed that it is crucial that measures are implemented to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.

“The Assam Rifles must demonstrate unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and conduct” DNSU said and sought prompt and transparent response, detailing concrete actions to address this grave breach of conduct and restore public trust in their dedication to justice and human rights.
