Paris: 21-year-old becomes youngest Indian Olympic medalist

Wrestler Amaan Sehrawat has clinched the bronze medal in his first appearance at the Olympics. The 21-year-old is now the youngest Indian to win a medal at the event after he beat Puerto Rico’s Darian Cruz by 13-5 in Men’s 57kg Freestyle on 9th August 2024 at the Paris Olympics 2024.

With this, India now has 6 medals (1 silver and 5 bronze) in this edition of the Olympics.

Congratulating the wrestler, President Droupadi Murmu posted on X that the young man has a promising career ahead and he will win several medals and accolades for India. With his success, India continues its tradition of winning Olympic medals in wrestling, she added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated wrestler Aman Sehrawat and posted on X:

“More pride thanks to our wrestlers!

Congratulations to Aman Sehrawat for winning the Bronze Medal in the Men’s Freestyle 57 kg at the Paris Olympics. His dedication and perseverance are clearly evident. The entire nation celebrates this remarkable feat.”

Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya too lauded the youngest Indian Olympic medalist and stated, “Your outstanding performance has made the nation proud Aman. Congrats on this achievement!”
