MGM College, Dimapur, marked its 8th Freshers’ Day with an event filled with energy and excitement at the college auditorium on august 17, informed a press release by the college. The celebration welcomed the new batch of students.
The program began with a warm welcome speech by Fr. Giju George, the college administrator, who set the tone for the day by encouraging the students to embrace their academic journey with enthusiasm.
The event was graced by Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, who served as the Guest of Honour. In his speech, the DC emphasized the importance of going beyond academics in the pursuit of personal and professional growth. He encouraged the students to not only excel in their studies but also to develop a diverse range of life skills that would prepare them for the challenges of the future. Drawing from his own life experiences, Dr. Chang illustrated how education is not confined to the classroom and how vital it is for students to cultivate qualities such as leadership, communication, and resilience.

He stressed the need for a holistic approach to education, one that nurtures both intellect and character. Dr. Chang’s speech resonated deeply with the students, who were reminded of the broader purpose of their academic journey.
During the event, outstanding students from the previous semester were recognized for their achievements. Awards were presented to the Best Library User and Best Attendance, acknowledging their dedication and commitment.The highlight of the day was the crowning of the Freshers’ Day titles. Yelem from the Department of Education was honored with the title of Miss Fresher 2024, while Nahong, also from the Department of Education, was named Mister Fresher 2024. The event concluded on a high note, leaving the students motivated and ready to embark on their academic journey at MGM College.
