The Angami Women Organisation (AWO) hosted the Krutamiapfü Kethezie Kehou (Thanksgiving Program) on Tuesday at the RCEMPA, Jotsoma.
Neithono R. Sothu, President of AWO, announced plans for future seminars focusing on women’s issues, aimed at fostering awareness and dialogue within the community. She also paid tribute to the pioneers and past leaders of AWO for their tireless efforts in supporting the organization.
In his address, Thejao Vihienuo, President of the Angami Public Organization (APO), praised the AWO’s pioneering efforts in enhancing the welfare of the Angami community and encouraged ongoing dedication to societal improvement.
Ruokuoheü Miachieo, former president, emphasized the need to revive traditional practices passed down through generations, while also highlighting the importance of preparing children for competitive examinations. She further stressed the significance of returning to agriculture, animal husbandry, and business to promote self-sufficiency and hard work.
Kevinourheno Seyie, another former AWO president, expressed her satisfaction with the progress of Angami women but raised concerns about the high prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Nagaland and the increasing societal disconnection. She highlighted the vital role of women in bridging communication gaps.
Medovino Phizo, also a former president, voiced worries about the declining use of the Angami language, calling it essential to the community’s identity. She further emphasized the importance of promoting traditional attire and maintaining proper dressing standards.
Neilhuzono Nagi, a former AWO president and current advisor, stressed the importance of promoting one’s mother tongue, asserting that this initiative must start at home.
Messages from Kereilhouviü Kire and Neisevoü Kirha were also shared, expressing their concerns and thoughts for women. Various leaders and former AWO presidents participated, sharing their insights on the cultural and social responsibilities of Angami women.
The overall event highlighted the significance of preserving ancient ancestral practices, promoting the mother tongue, and celebrating traditional attire.
Earlier, the programme commenced with invocation prayer led by Rev. Zakiebeinyu Peseyie. The General Secretary’s report was delivered by Shyien Vihienuo and a song was performed by AWO officials, along with members from the Western Angami Women Organisation (WAWO), Southern Angami Women Organisation (WAWO), and Northern Angami Women Organisation (NAWO).
