Warsaw: India and Poland upgrade relationship to ‘Strategic Partnership’

Ahead of his visit to Ukraine, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated that no problem can be solved on battlefield. In his Press Statement at the Joint Press Conference with Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk, Modi said that the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia are deep concerns for both countries and emphasised on dialogue and diplomacy for early restoration of peace and stability.

“For this, India, along with its friendly countries, is ready to provide all possible support,” he stated.

On Thursday, the Prime Minister held talks with Donald Tusk in restricted and delegation level formats. The leaders decided to upgrade the relationship to a ‘Strategic Partnership’ and engaged in wide-ranging discussions on various aspects of the bilateral partnership, including trade and investment, science and technology, defense and security, cultural cooperation, and people-to-people ties. The two leaders agreed that there were significant opportunities available for economic and business collaboration in sectors such as food processing, urban infrastructure, water, solid waste management, electric vehicles, green hydrogen, renewable energy, AI, mining and in clean technologies.

The leaders underscored the importance of deepening people-to-people ties and cultural relations. In this regard, they highlighted the unique bond established between the two countries based on the generosity of Maharaja of Jamnagar and the royal family of Kolhapur.

Upon his arrival at Warsaw on 21st August, PM Modi laid a wreath and paid tribute to The Dobry Maharaja Memorial, a remembrance to the deep respect and gratitude that the people and government of Poland have for the Jamsaheb of Nawanagar Digvijaysinhji Ranjitsinhji Jadeja who provided shelter to over a thousand Polish children during the second World War.

The Prime Minister also laid a wreath and paid tribute at the Monument to the Battle of Monte Cassino which commemorates the sacrifice and valour of soldiers from Poland, India and other countries who fought alongside each other in the famous Battle of Monte Cassino in Italy during the second World War.

Later, Modi addressed the Indian diaspora at an event organized in his honour by the Indian community and called upon the community to become a brand ambassador of tourism to India and be part of its growth story. He also announced a new initiative called Jamsaheb Memorial Youth Exchange Program under which 20 Polish youth would be invited to India each year.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Kyiv, Ukraine tomorrow at the invitation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
