Date for 2nd Chakhesang Open Naga Wrestling Championship 2022 announced

Kohima: Under-14 Open Naga Wrestling Championship will be organised for the first time to encourage wrestling at young age

The Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) has announced the date for the 2nd Chakhesang Open Naga Wrestling Championship 2022. The championship will be held on 4 November at Pfutsero, Phek district, CWA President Vekhozo CWA President informed at a press conference held at Nagaland Olympic Association office complex, Kohima.

The Championship will coincide with a Peace Marathon which will be organized by Kalos Society Pfutsero and the 1st Open under-14 Naga Wrestling Championship will also be held on 3 November.

Vekhozo also informed that prominent wrestlers from Karnataka, Jharkhand and Manipur will participate at the championship. Renowned wrestlers from Nagaland including Kezhavizo Thevo, reigning Champion of 1st edition CWA Open Champion 2018 and Venuzo Dawhuo, reigning NWA Champion 2022 and NWA Open Champion 2021, will also be competing for the coveted title.

The 2nd Chakhesang Open Naga Wrestling Championship 2022 will be graced by Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, MLA and Co-Chairman UDA, as Special Guest in the inaugural function.

The Champion will receive a cash prize of Rs 2,00,000, the 2nd runner-up will be awarded Rs. 1,00,000, and the 3rd runner up and 4th runner up will receive Rs 70,000 and Rs. 50,000 respectively. The quarter finalists will also be awarded with Rs 10,000 each.

The CWA president also informed that a peace marathon would be held on 3 November at 8am at Sakraba and Porba respectively for men and women, and culminate at Sports Complex Pfutsero. This will be followed by prize distribution for the marathon winners by Kalos Society, Pfutsero.

The 1st Under 14 Open Naga Wrestling Championship 2022 will begin thereafter, Vekhozo said.

“Participants in under-14 category will be limited to 32 only and is open to all on first come first in wrestler’s registration. There will be cash award and citation for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th position holders. The introduction of Under 14 age group is to encourage wrestling at young age by providing platform at bigger stage and to let them gain confidence and experience.”

The organizers have extended invitations to all wrestling fans across the State to come and give moral support to the wrestlers.

The 2nd Edition of Chakhesang Open Naga Wrestling Championship 2022 will be managed by Lasumi Baptist Church.
