The District Administration, Zunheboto, in collaboration with Assam Rifles and DHEW-BBBP 100 days campaign, organised an awareness campaign on ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and Mental Health’ today at Zunheboto, with the primary aim to reach to the most vulnerable section of the society, the Youth and focusing on students.
Deputy Commissioner, Zunheboto, Rahul Bhanudas Mali (IAS) during his opening remarks said that statistics show addiction as the prime contributor of small to severe criminal activities and the only way out of it is to avoid away for all kinds of intoxicating substances.
Commandant, Assam Rifles, Major Praveen Kumar Salotra, the guest speaker of the programme cited example from his own state, Punjab, where substance abuse is on a major scale and uncontrollable to a huge extent. He exhorted that Nagaland should try not to head towards that state of menace before it goes out of proportion.
Miss Northeast 2023, Star Speaker of the campaign, Kenie Ritse spoke on the topic ‘Mental Health’ highlighting issues and various types of it, over which she raised points on the stigmas, discrimination and the mental health they go through. She also raised slogans on mental illness.
Miss Nagaland 2022, Hikali Achumi while speaking as one of the Star Speakers highlighted on the topic ‘Substance Abuse’ and said the only tool of ‘Prevention’ is to never experience it in the first place. She further said that, no one is born addicted but it always begins with that first taste. Hikali in conclusion administered echoed slogans of ‘Breaking the Silence’ and with a Pledge on ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’.
Apart from mental health and substance abuse, Director ACTS, Bura Akum, elaborated on blood donation during his speech at the campaign.
Sakhi One Stop Centre highlighted the assistances provided to women facing any types of violence, and FLS DHEW, Nguvito, highlighted on insights of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme. SP Zunheboto, Kupe Kapfo also exhorted the students to be wise and manage their time properly. The campaign was chaired by EAC Chinglem Konyak and Vote of Thanks was delivered EAC Zunheboto, Mhao Humtsoe.
