Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 launched in Kohima

The Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 launch event took place on September 17 at the Conference Hall of the Nagaland Civil Secretariat in Kohima. This year’s program is centered around the theme “Swabhav Swachhata, Sanskaar Swachhata,” and is a collaborative effort between SBM-U, SBM-G Nagaland, and KMC.

Special Guest E. Mhonbemo Patton (IAS), Principal Secretary of PHED, called for collaboration and ongoing support from all stakeholders. He highlighted the significance of this year, marking the 10th edition of the event. Patton highlighted that the event represents a whole-of-government  and public approach, emphasizing the collective effort needed to promote sanitation awareness. He urged all stakeholders to engage, stating that this initiative should extend beyond government involvement to include all citizens of the state. Additionally, he expressed hope that the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and District Councils will actively support this movement.

The program was chaired by Kekhrievor Kevichüsa (IPoS) commissioner and secretary, UDD and MA who also highlighted that the Swacchata Hi Seva initiative aims to raise awareness about cleanliness and hygiene through community participation. This year’s theme is “Swabhav Swachhata, Sanskar Swachhata.”

Relating with the theme, he mentioned that the state’s steering committee has decided to approach this year’s Swacchata Hi Seva campaign through three innovative strategies. The first is the slogan “Moi Lega Jahrah, Moi Laga Kaam” (My Waste, My Responsibility), encouraging individuals to take personal ownership of cleanliness.

The second approach Involves adopting the Lao-Ong-Mo festival of the Konyak tribe on September 28, a post-harvest celebration that includes community efforts to clean footpaths and streets.

 

Lastly, the committee plans to extend the swachhata campaign until November 30, aligning it with the start of the Hornbill Festival and promoting participation across the states. He clarified that while this initiative will not be a daily event, timely cleanliness drives will be organized.

The campaign have a number of 212 cleanliness target unit including 189 urban areas and 23 rural areas. Further, a Mass Social Work program will be held tomorrow at Kisama 7 am.
