International Day for older persons celebrated in Tuensang

International Day for Older Persons was celebrated under the theme, “Ageing with Dignity,” at Town Hall, Tuensang on 1st October, 2024.

Speaking on the occasion as the special guest, Deputy Commissioner, Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, said that the day was celebrated to honour the significant contribution of the elders to the society. She stated that being an older person does not imply weakness, but it was a blessing. She urged the senior citizens to impart knowledge and wisdom to the younger generation with their vast experience. She also thanked the elders for constant their prayers and support, including the recently held Dr. T. Ao Trophy.

Key note address was delivered by DWO Tuensang, T. Longlang Luckpan while Dr. Tehrilila Sangtam shared on healthy aging and physiotherapy. Speech on behalf of senior citizens was shared by Rev. L. Ben Chang and a special prayer for the elderly persons was pronounced by President TTBPU, L. Ongmang Chang. Vote of thanks was delivered by President UTELU, Imlong Soted. The programme was chaired by Khengo, LDA DWO Tuensang.

Distinguished District award was presented to Rev. L. Ben Chang and Thsangchila. A free medical camp was also organised by the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Tuensang on the occasion. The programme was organised by the Department of Social Welfare, Tuensang in collaboration with United Tribal of Elders, Leaders Union (UTELU).
