The Konyak Union Dimapur (KUD), has expressed deep concern and condemned the wrongful arrest of Tahngao and Nyemphoa in two separate locations in Dimapur Railway Station on September 27 by the 43 Assam Rifles.

The KUD Informed that Tahngao son of Lt. Yobong of Pukha Village is bonafide executive member while  Nyemphoa son of Menlei Konyak of Neitong Village is serving as the President of Neitong Village Students’ Union under Tizit subdivision of Mon district. The two were reported to have been arrested by the 43 Assam Rifles on September 27 at two separate location, one at railway station Dimapur and the other below the railway fly over bridge.

“The 43 Assam Rifles, despite fully knowing that the two are civilians arrested them by branding them as NSCN cadres, defaming not only those two but also the organization they serve in, just to obtain good remarks from their higher authority at the cost of the lives of innocent civilians. Such high handedness of the so called ‘friends of the hills people’ is not only creating mistrust and distrust with the law enforcing agencies, but also causing fear psychosis amongst the hills people, which may have negative impact, not only to those arrested individuals but also their family members,” stated the KUD.

It has, therefore, appealed the law enforcing authority to be cautious while dealing with the lives of innocent citizens of the country, and to conduct their duty sincerely by correctly cross-checking the identity of the person before any arrest is made.

“We further appeal the legal authority to kindly release the above mentioned individuals verifying the documents produced by Union, Village Council etc. etc without any conditions as they were wrongfully implicated by the 43 AR for their selfish and personal gain,” appealed the KUD.
