DC Wokha issues Order on BAN on trade and hunting of Amur Falcons

Wokha: Violators to be prosecuted under relevant sections of Wildlife Protection Act

The Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, Vineet Kumar, IAS, has issued an Order for all the Villagers/Towns under Wokha District to strictly implement the ban on trade and hunting of wild animals/birds in areas under their jurisdictions.

The DC reminded of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 adopted by the Government of Nagaland under which the hunting of wild animals/birds within the territorial jurisdiction of Nagaland, is strictly prohibited. He also reminded that Amur Falcons are protected under the Act and therefore hunting, trapping, killing of selling of Amur Falcons for food or possession or otherwise is a criminal offence, punishable with upto 3 years of rigorous imprisonment or with Rs. 25,000 fine or both under Section 9 & 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972.

“THEREFORE, appropriate necessary action shall be initiated against any individual/groups found hunting, trapping, killing or selling of Amur Falcons for food or possession or otherwise” the Order stated. It also cautioned that any person/group of persons acting in violation of the above directives will be liable to be prosecuted under the relevant sections of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
