The 2nd Mojabi Open Futsal Tournament, organized by the Küpza Students’ Union, Mokokchung, concluded on November 16 at Mojabi Futsal Turf, Salangtem Ward.

The final match saw Chargers FC triumph over Gilgal with a final score of 6-2 to claim the championship title, earning a cash prize of ₹40,000. Gilgal secured the runners-up position with a reward of ₹20,000. The tournament recognized individual excellence with Imkongtemsu of Chargers FC named Best Goalkeeper, Abu of Gilgal awarded Highest Goal Scorer, and Mezibui of Revenant FC adjudged Player of the Tournament.

Delivering words of encouragement, N. Chuba Phom, District Planning Officer, Mokokchung, addressed sports enthusiasts and young players, emphasizing that being a professional sportsperson earns more respect and often provides a better income than a government job. He encouraged the youth to pursue worthy goals, highlighting that sports are not just about financial rewards but also offer significant health benefits, helping to keep the body in good shape.

Phom stressed the importance of cultivating “good qualities” in sports, such as determination, endurance, and humility. He advised the players to embody these traits, stating, “These qualities define a good sportsperson. You have them—don’t lose them.”

Addressing the decline of sports in Mokokchung, he lamented that the district, once considered a powerhouse of sports, now struggles even to form a full team of 11 players. He attributed this partly to a lack of interest among the youth and acknowledged the challenges caused by inadequate infrastructure. However, he urged the players not to dwell on complaints, as this only highlights one’s weaknesses. Drawing inspiration from global football icons who succeeded despite limited resources, he said, “With determination, you can make the impossible possible.”

Phom also observed that most promising athletes come from villages rather than towns, as urban youth often spend excessive time on mobile phones, which he described as unhealthy and unproductive. He encouraged the youngsters to balance academics with physical activity, resolve to spend quality time on the field, and work towards restoring Mokokchung’s legacy as a sports powerhouse.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Lanuakum, who expressed gratitude to all participants, supporters, and well-wishers for making the tournament a success. Imkongsanen chaired the program, while Mayangnungba pronounced the invocation.
