The Southern Angami Women Organisation (SAWO) celebrated its Silver Jubilee at Main Arena, Naga Heritage Village, Kisama on 13 October.
To mark the celebration, Neisevoü Kirha, one of the founding members of SAWO, unfurled the SAWO Silver Jubilee flag, and the blessing on the occasion was given by Zakieviu Kechü, the first SAWO President.
Advisor, Youth Resources & Sports, Er Zale Neikha and Advisor, Technical Education and Election, Medo Yhokha were the special guests for the celebration.
Er Zale Neikha while releasing a book to commemorate the SAWO’s 25th anniversary, lauded the organization for its good works and appealed to them to continue passing the good traditions and practices of the forefathers to the younger generation.
Advisor, Medo Yhokha too released a book that documented the traditional attires and ornaments of the Southern Angami region. Yhokha expressed hope that the book would help in preserving the traditional attires and ornaments for future generations.

General Secretary, Angami Women Organisation, Chozhüle Kikhi, speaking on the theme, ‘Pass on the good practices of our forefathers’ pointed out some of the beliefs and good practices of our forefathers, such as self-sufficiency, truthfulness, dignity of labour, etc.
She narrated the beliefs held and rituals performed by their forefathers to perform various tasks. Kikhi reminded the gathering of the rich social life the past generation enjoyed, and also how some of the practices of ‘kenyü’ (prohibitions), have helped in maintaining harmony and order in the society. She appealed to the gathering to hold on to the good practices.
Women representing the 13 villages of the Southern Angami area performed folk songs to celebrate and commemorate the historic day.
