The Indian Army launched flood relief operations in Puducherry on the morning of 1st December 2024 to assist in the rescue and relief efforts in areas affected by waterlogging following heavy rainfall caused by Cyclone Fengal. The PRO and Spokesperson, Ministry of Defence, informed that the operations were initiated in response to a formal requisition from the District Collector of Puducherry, requesting immediate assistance.
The Army rescue team was mobilised in the early hours from Chennai and reached Krishnanagar, Puducherry. The team has safely relocated 100 people to secure locations since then. It is also working to rescue civilians from approximately 500 houses in the Krishnanagar area, where water levels have reached up to 5 feet in some localities, the Spokesperson stated.
