The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has strongly condemned the abduction, assault, and intimidation perpetrated against four innocent individuals, including a student, in the early hours of December 17, at Thahekhu Village, Dimapur.

“The DNSU is deeply disturbed and alarmed by the involvement of certain individuals claiming affiliation with Naga political groups in this egregious incident. The use of firearms, including AK-47s and pistols, to intimidate and abduct innocent citizens is utterly unacceptable and a blatant disregard for the rule of law,” stated a press release issued by the Media Cell, DNSU.

Reiterating its long-standing stance that no Naga political group should ever use firearms against students, the Union stated that the students are the future of the society, and it is the responsibility of all stakeholders to ensure their safety and well-being.

“If those entrusted with the responsibility of protecting our citizens do not understand the purpose of holding a gun, which is to protect and serve, not to intimidate and harm, then they need to quit their job. The DNSU demands that all stakeholders respect the sanctity of student life and refrain from using violence or intimidation against them,” stated the Union.

The DNSU demanded that the authorities take immediate and stringent action against the perpetrators, ensuring that they are brought to justice and booked under relevant penal laws. “We have full trust in the police department’s ability to investigate this incident impartially and deliver justice to the victims,” it added.

However, the Union cautioned that failing to bring justice to the victims will lead to a catastrophic loss of hope in the law among the citizens and the student community.  “Any untoward incident that may arise from the authorities’ inaction will be solely the responsibility of the concerned authorities and the stakeholders of the group involved,” asserted the Union.

It has also urged all stakeholders” including political parties, to condemn such acts of violence and intimidation, and to ensure that their affiliates and supporters uphold the law and respect the rights of all citizens.

“We stand in solidarity with the victims and their families, and demand a thorough investigation into this incident to prevent such occurrences in the future,” affirmed the Union.
