The Rengma Selo Zi (RSZ), the apex youth organization of the Rengma Nagas, has issued an ultimatum to the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur against the harassment and assault of innocent citizens on December 17.
Condemning the brutal assault on three innocent youths by individuals claiming to be Naga National Workers, the organisation placed charter of demands to arrest the culprits and hold them accountable for their actions.
“This incident, which occurred on the intervening night of 17th December 2024, is deeply disturbing and unacceptable, particularly at a time when the Naga people are yearning for peace and resolution of the long-pending Naga political issue. Of the three victims, two are from the Rengma community—both brothers, one of whom is a student and a bonafide member of the Rengma Selo Zi. These brothers were targeted and assaulted without any justification, while helping a friend and his colleague who were initially detained by the perpetrators. Such heinous acts cannot and will not be tolerated by the Rengma Selo Zi or the Naga people,” stated the RSZ.
The organisation placed the following charter of demands to the DC Dimapur:
- Accountability: The group responsible for this heinous act must be held accountable.
- Legal Action: The government must immediately book the culprits under the law and initiate befitting punishment for their criminal actions.
- Arrest of Culprits: The government must apprehend the perpetrators within three (3) days of this letter.
- Public Apology: The group responsible must issue a public apology to the entire Naga people for their anti-national actions. This apology must be made in a public forum before the Naga people.

Failure to act within this stipulated timeframe will compel the Rengma Selo Zi to pursue democratic measures to ensure justice, the organisation cautioned. It urged the district administration to treat the matter with utmost urgency and seriousness.
“The safety and dignity of every citizen must be safeguarded, especially when groups misuse the guise of national service to perpetrate crimes against innocent individuals. The Rengma Selo Zi stands firm in its commitment to protecting the rights and well-being of our people. We hope the government will fulfill its duty to ensure justice and uphold the rule of law,” added the RSZ.
