The Ao Students’ Union Dimapur (ASUD) has condemned the recent incident of abduction and brutal assault on four civilians, including one of its bonafide members of the Ao community, which occurred in the early hours of December 17, 2024. “This heinous act, perpetrated by unknown assailants at gunpoint, is a grave violation of human rights and a direct threat to the safety and security of our community,” stated the ASUD in a press release issued yesterday.

In solidarity with the Dimapur Rengma Students’ Union, the ASUD expressed that it stood firmly against such acts of abduction and torture of innocent civilians. It urged the law enforcement agencies and investigating bodies to remain steadfast and not succumb to any external pressures, stressing on the importance of timely justice and accountability of the perpetrators in accordance with the law.

Further, it called upon the central government and the Cease Fire Monitoring Authority to clarify the status of those involved in this incident. “Are they truly National Workers, or are they masquerading as such? The possession of arms and the harassment of civilians must be addressed, as it poses a significant threat to the safety of law abiding innocent citizens of the State or country. As long as these inhumane and merciless individuals continue to operate within our communities, there will be a constant atmosphere of fear among the people, undermining the peace and security of our citizens,”  asserted the Union.

Standing resolutely against such perpetrators, the Union stated that any further untoward incidents affecting its community members will not be tolerated.

“We will not remain mere spectators; we are prepared to take all necessary measures to ensure that justice is delivered,” expressed the ASUD.
