Alongmen Ward (No. 15) clinched the coveted title at the 51st Inter-Ward Christmas Cake Race, held on December 24, 2024, at Town Square, Mokokchung. Organized by the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) and coordinated by the Christmas Cake Race Technical Committee – Mokokchung Athletics Association. The race remains a highlight of the town’s Christmas festive season, bringing together all 18 wards under the MMC.
The competition, whichh commenced at 6:30 am, witnessed fierce rivalry among participants. Lijaba Lijen Ward (No. 13) and Dilong Ward (No. 6) secured the second and third positions, respectively, following a closely contested race.
Winners were awarded cash prizes, certificates, and cakes, with ₹50,000 for the first position, ₹30,000 for the second, and ₹20,000 for the third.

Imkongchuba A., Chairperson of the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), extended his warm greetings to the citizens of Mokokchung Town during the much-awaited annual Christmas Cake Race. He expressed gratitude to the pioneers and past leaders who introduced this unique event, emphasizing its role in fostering unity and peace among the town’s diverse wards.
Speaking at the event, Imkongchuba highlighted the significance of physical activities, particularly for young people, and lauded the race for bringing together sports enthusiasts. “This is a time when all wards come together as one, promoting peace and unity,” he said.
The MMC Chairperson reaffirmed the council’s commitment to ensuring all-around development in Mokokchung Town with the continued cooperation and support of its citizens. He also shared the council’s vision of introducing innovative ideas to make the Christmas Cake Race more spectacular in the coming years.
Additionally, he extended the council’s gratitude to the Hon’ble MLA and Advisor for Water Resources, Tongpang Ozukum, for generously sponsoring the cash prizes for this year’s winners. Imkongchuba concluded by encouraging the citizens to collaborate with the MMC in future endeavors to strengthen community ties and celebrate unity through such events.
The race was flagged off by Imkongchuba A., Chairperson of the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC). Imkumniba Kichu Councillor, MMC delivered the vote of thanks. The race is exclusively open to legitimate residents of the Mokokchung Municipality’s different wards.
Every participating team has 2 (two) girls and 9 (nine) boys, for a total of 11 runners, with the first and second runners being female competitors only.
The 50th Christmas Cake Race 2023 was won by Dilong Ward, with Lijaba Lijen Ward securing the second position and Arkong Ward bagging the third.
