Old Changsu Students Union celebrates 75th Platinum Jubilee

The Old Changsu Students Union (OCSU) celebrated its 75th Platinum Jubilee on December 28, 2024, at the local ground in Old Changsu village, with Deputy Chief Minister and Home & Border Affairs Minister, Yanthungo Patton, as the Guest of Honour.

Congratulating the founding members, pioneers, and all those who have contributed to the Old Changsu Students Union, Patton expressed hope that this jubilee celebration would bring peace within the community and produce students with character and values who will go on to become responsible leaders in society in the years to come.

Patton emphasized that the platinum jubilee serves as a catalyst for cultivating strong leadership and fostering successful individuals and intellectuals within the community. Sharing a personal anecdote about his past association and experience with the elders and pioneers of the village and former student leaders, he urged the students to emulate the good deeds and examples set by these leaders to become responsible members of society. He also called upon the students to understand their roles and responsibilities and strive hard to excel and achieve their goals with sincerity and dedication. He further emphasized the importance of inclusivity and nurturing young children for progressive development.

Earlier, Patton unveiled the monolith and the OCSU flag, while the monolith was dedicated by Rev. Dr. Nzan Odyuo, Principal of Golden Crown Theological College, Dimapur.

The theme speaker of the event, Dr. Apeni Lotha, Retired Director of Higher Education, spoke on the theme “Pruning for Excellence,” encouraging the congregation to foster education and skills among the upcoming generation and to act responsibly in bridging the gap.

Short speeches were also delivered by Lotha Students Union President Lirhonthung Kithan, Englan Range Students Union President Chonbernthung, and Old Changsu Village Council Chairman Elithung Ngullie.

In the programme, Eyingbemo N. Shitiri, President of OCU, delivered a welcome note, while L. Thungpen Lotha, Convenor of the Jubilee Planning Committee, addressed the gathering. Ekyimo Odyuo, President of OCSU (1977-1978), shared the history and formation of OCSU. While jubilee blessing prayer was offered by C. Chonbemo Shitiri, Pastor Old Changsu Baptist Church.
