The residents of Archemok Sector, Yimyu Ward, Mokokchung have undertaken the repair of potholes along the stretch of road connecting key institutions such as the District Institute for Education and Training (DIET), Mokokchung College of Teacher Education (MCTE), and the District Veterinary Hospital, Mokokchung. This road also serves as a vital route for major households in the area.

Local residents and daily commuters have endured deplorable road conditions for more than a decade. However, on January 25, 2025, repair work commenced with contributions from the Local Area Development Programme (LADP) fund, supported by the collective efforts of local residents. Labor, pickup vehicles for transporting essential materials like sand, cement, water, and chip stones, were provided by the community.

The road, commonly referred to as DIET Road, B.Ed Road, or Veterinary Road, lies just below the Yimyu Community Hall and connects with the Mokokchung-Mariani Road (NH-702D). The road will remain closed to vehicles until Tuesday, January 28, 2025, and is expected to reopen on January 29, 2025. Commuters traveling to the institutions are advised to use the District Jail Road during this period.

A local resident stated that the road had been neglected for over ten years since its last maintenance. He emphasized the challenges faced by trainees coming from different districts to attend the teacher training institutes, as well as the daily struggles of local residents due to the poor road conditions. He further informed that 40 members from the colony are actively engaged in the manual work to repair the potholes.

The residents have appealed to the concerned government department to properly carpet the stretch of road, considering its importance as a route to significant institutions and its impact on the local community.

The area youth president also highlighted the problems and expressed hope that the relevant authorities would take the necessary steps to address the situation effectively. “If the concerned department takes purposeful action to maintain this road, it will greatly benefit the community,” he added.
