Following the recent rationalisation of teachers by the Department of School Education, several student organisations have opposed the move considering it irrational and unjustified.
In a press release, the Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) expressed deep concern and disappointment over the recent transfer and posting of teachers under the rationalization policy, as per Notification No. EDN/PLN/RATIONALIZATION/2023 dated 10th February 2025. It claimed that the move will have far-reaching implications for the entire state of Nagaland, raising several critical questions. “While the LSU supports the rationalization policy in principle, the current implementation is deemed irrational. The random transfer and posting of teachers without proper groundwork, statistical reports, or consultations with district authorities is unfair and unjustified,” stated the Union.
The hasty and arbitrary transfer of teachers, according to LSU, has created uncertainty and chaos among students, parents, and the teaching community, affecting not only the academic environment but also the future of students. The Union also reiterated its concerns regarding the lack of transparency and consultation in the implementation of the rationalization policy.
“Furthermore, the matter regarding subject teachers should also be taken into consideration. For instance, some schools have an excess of Hindi teachers, while others lack teachers in critical subjects. This imbalance will only exacerbate the existing challenges in our education system. In light of the above, we demand that the authorities revoke the current transfer and posting orders with immediate effect, conduct a thorough review of the rationalization policy, and engage with local stakeholders, district authorities, and conduct a thorough analysis using proper statistical data,” asserted the Union.
The LSU further stated that it will continue to advocate for the rights and interests of students and will take all necessary steps to ensure that justice is served. “We urge the authorities to take our demands seriously and work towards finding a solution that prioritizes the well-being and education of our students. We appeal to the authorities to be more sensitive and responsive to the needs and concerns of the student community,” added the LSU.

Meanwhile, the Khiamniungan Students’ Union (KSU) has written to the SDEO & DEO Incharge, School Education, in Noklak requesting not to release the order.
With the challenges faced by educational systems, the KSU expressed shock to witness the injustice process of rationalisation carried out by DOSE, wherein in the name of rationalization five teachers are being notified to be transferred out of Noklak with only to be replaced by two teachers instead of enhancing more teachers in the area. “The schools under SDEO Noklak are in urgent need of teachers as most of the school runs understaffed,” stated the Union.
It has therefore appealed the concerned authorities to withhold the release order of those notified to be transferred from Noklak. “In the event of going against the KSU the concern officer incharge shall be solely held responsible. The KSU also request your concern authority to cautious and consider the shortage of staff while carrying out such process to avoid any misunderstanding and only for efficient functioning of Schools,” stated the Union.
