The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, held the final quarterly meeting of the District Skill Committee (DSC) on 19th February 2025. The meeting was chaired by ADC, Dimapur, Zakabo V Rotokha, NCS.
In the review meeting, Gideon Sumi, District Employment Officer, Dimapur said that the Department of Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship has launched multiple skill development programs for 2024-25, where the State-Funded PACES Program for training in electrician (160 candidates) and baking (160 candidates), and another initiative for 25 candidates yet to be finalized are the Centrally Funded SANKALP Project, Training in Assistant Electrician & Carpentry (50 candidates) and Food Processing (50 candidates).
These initiatives aim to enhance employability and self-sufficiency for the youths of the district. encouraging eligible candidates to enroll, the DEO urged those interested to contact the Department of Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Dimapur for further details.
Sumi also highlighted achievements such as increased enrollment in technical courses, successful placements in various sectors, and collaborations with local businesses. Challenges, including infrastructure gaps and funding constraints, were also addressed, with plans for further improvement.
The DEO also emphasized the growing demand for skill development among employees in various sectors. “Employees are actively seeking opportunities to enhance their skills. We are committed to providing policies that support their growth and ensure they receive quality training,” the Sumi said.
The district is positioning itself as a hub for skill development, with ongoing efforts to expand vocational training programs. Authorities are working on introducing new policies to support employees in upgrading their skills, thereby boosting employment opportunities and economic growth.
