The International Women’s Day was celebrated at Capital Convention Centre, Kohima under the theme ‘For All Women and girls. Right, Equality, Empowerment’, with MLA & Advisor for Social Welfare Department, Wangpang Konyak as the special guest.
In his address, the Advisor said that women empowerment is not just a call for the department but a necessity to build a just inclusive and prosperous society, as empowering women uplifts our community. He added that in our state, we are blessed with rich cultural heritage where women plays key roles in the family, community and economy, but needs to address the challenges such as access to higher education, economy, opportunities and protection from violence. Therefore, the Advisor called upon all, the need to renew our commitment in creating a future, where every human can progress, prospers free from discrimination and with equal opportunities to succeed while celebrating the day.
Wangpang Konyak also expressed being proud to have two women law makers in the legislative assembly and about women candidates winning 103 seats across the state marking 37% against the mandatory 33% in the recently Urban Local Body election which he called it a great success story in Nagaland. He also congratulated the first woman in Nagaland to be appointed additional judge of the Guwahati High Court and the recipient of the NSCW Excellence Award 2025, NSCW Award 2025 and SHG Women Achievers. Konyak also mentioned that the Naga women today are recognized for their contribution in various capacities not only in our state level but also in the national and international level.
He also remained that women are the hearth of the society irrespective of profession or position and called upon them to support one another, break barriers to build a brighter future for generation to come and to take a pledge to work together, foster equality, respect and opportunity for all as collective efforts, we can create a society in our state where every woman can live with dignity and reach our full potential.
During the programme, the keynote address was proposed by Commissioner & Secretary Social welfare, Martha R. Ritse, IAS, while the Welcome address was pronounced by Secretary Social Welfare, Bodeno S. Colo and Vote of thanks by Director, Social Welfare, Tosheli Zhimomi.
Felicitation of SHG Women Achievers was also conducted by Mission Director, Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission, Imtimenla, while Commendations of NSCW Excellence Award 2025 and NSCW Award 2025 were pronounced by Chairperson, Nagaland State Commissioner for Women, W. Nginyeih Konyak.
