New Market defeats Shillong Lajong FC in a thriller; Ura Uvie defeats FIFA FC in Semi-Finals of NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy 2022

In the two semi-final matches played today at IG Stadium, Kohima, Ura Uvie FC defeated FIFA FC 6-2 while New Market FC defeated Shillong Lajong FC 2-1.

The grand finale of the 22nd NSF MMT will take place on Monday, 24 October at 5:30pm at IG Stadium, Kohima. Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will be the Special Guest of the event.

New Market FC vs Shillong Lajong FC

New Market FC defeated Shillong Lajong FC and went through the finals by a margin of 2-1.

With New Market FC taking the lead early in the first half courtesy of a strike by the mercurial striker Rhitso Mero (jersey no 14) of New Market FC in two minutes, the match was set for a lot of excitement.

The match between New Market FC (green) and Shillong Lajong (white) was set for a lot of excitement.

Estimated to be witnessed by more than 6000 spectators, Shillong Lajong FC found the equaliser early in the second half with Aman Allawat (jersey no 4) scoring from a set piece in the 49th minute. Shillong Lajong FC dominated for most part of the match. New Market FC were made to dig deep with an occasional push forward.

Neither of the team could break the deadlock and the match went into extra time. Around the 98th minute mark, the striker of New Market FC Rhitso Mero scored another goal, his second of the match as New Market FC finally prevailed in a hard-fought battle 2-1.

Man of the Match: Cornelliu Pudaite of NMFC.

The Man of the Match was awarded to Cornelliu Pudaite of NMFC. The award was handed over by Roko Angami, President Nagaland Football Coach Association.

The electrifying atmosphere and crowd came in for special mention.

FIFA FC vs Ura Uvie FC

Ura Uvie (white) vs FIFA FC (yellow) at the semi-finals.

Earlier, in the other semi-final match, Nyithong Magh of Ura Uvie FC (jersey no 7) gave the lead with a goal from a spot kick in the 34th minute.

His teammate Shürhosül Zhotso (jersey no 10) netted a beautiful goal in the 45th minute. The third goal came from Nyithong Magh from a free-kick in the 51st minute. The fourth goal was netted by Menguzelie Rutsa (jersey no 17) in the 60th minute.

The fifth goal for Ura Uvie came from Nyithong Magh in the 82nd minute while the sixth goal was netted by Kevisanyü (jersey no 8) in the 90th minute.

The first goal in favour of FIFA FC came from the boot of Haohan (jersey no 5) in the 54th minute. The second goal for the team was scored by Laisham (jersey no 17) in the 76th minute.

Man of the Match: Nyithong Magh of Ura Uvie.

The man of the match was awarded to Nyithong Magh of Ura Uvie. The award was presented by Vevoyi Vadeo, former Chakesang Students’ Union President.
