Securing top 7 in the recent High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) exam has not been  just a successful result story but a dream fulfilled for the small district of Noklak which will be an inspiration for the generations to come. Hailing from Noklak village, 15 years old Niamkoi from St Paul School Noklak has marked history by being the first topper from Noklak district securing the top 7 with a score of 97.17 percent in the recently declared HSLC result. The young topper expressed her gratitude to God for His boundless love and grace upon her. “I feel blessed and happy to be able to achieve this far”, she said.

Her journey to reach the destination of achieving such milestone comes from self-discipline and setting her focus on the ‘Goal’ alone. Niamkoi expresses that she stayed motivated by reminding herself of her goals and dreams during tough times. Acknowledging that her family and teachers have been the source of encouragement and support, the topper noted how their support pushed her to continue the journey of hardwork. Having one biggest fear, Niamkoi who would later rise to top 7 often asked herself, “Will I be able to make my dream of being in top a reality?” Bearing the burden of this thought, Niamkoi strongly decided to give her best and started working hard more than ever before.

Her preparation for the exam was not easy where she would come across times when the weight of stress would get heavier. The topper even thought of giving up, but she reminded herself that this is the opportunity to try to give her best. “During those moments, I prayed and found strength and peace through prayer,” Niamkoi says.

Her strategy to manage her stress during exams included following a strict study plan and also giving herself a short break to relax and staying truly positive. Niamkoi also says that she made sure to get sound sleep and would talk to her family whenever she felt the pressure.

The 15 year old topper credits her parents who encouraged and took care of everything so that she could focus on her studies; her teachers for explaining lessons clearly and supporting her; and her friends for motivating. Niamkoi says that all these people’s motivation played a very important role in her achievement.

Admitting that she feels blessed and happy to be the first topper of Noklak district, Niamkoi noted, “Many of my friends have also been able to secure more 90% marks which shows that students from our district can do better. I hope it will inspire others to work hard and dream big.”

On being asked what advice would she give to the junior students of various schools from Noklak, the young topper says, “A student must have the  determination, motivation and the concept of making dreams into reality irrespective of where you study or live. Nothing is impossible.

Apart from the academic study routine, Niamkoi enjoys gardening, listening to music, singing and also finds  great interest in playing badminton.

Niamkoi’s next goal is to take up Science stream and look forward to clear competitive exams and NEET exams for her future endeavours.
