Power minister inaugurates 2.4 mw project at Poilwa village

Minister for Power KG Kenye on Friday inaugurated a 2.4 MW Duilumroi Hydro Electric Project at Poilwa village under Peren district, a DIPR report said.

In his address, the minister lauded the staff of Power department as well as contractors involved in the completion of the project. He also appreciated Poilwa and Heunambe villages for their cooperation and support for facilitating the completion of the project.

Kenye also extended gratitude to the state government headed by Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio for financially assisting the department with the necessary amount which was needed all throughout the construction of the project.

Secretary Power department, Asangla said that for the sustainability of this Duilumroi project, the catchment area should be protected and forest cover should also be maintained. The official requested the department to sensitize and co-ordinate with the neighbouring villages to grow more trees. She also asked the Power department to run and manage effectively the newly launched project effectively as a small model hydro project of the department.

With the completion and commissioning of 2.4 mw Duilumroi project, she expressed hope that the department would be able to develop a small hydro project in the years to come and also upkeep the maintenance and generate optimum energy to the fullest.

Chief engineer (T and G), Kasho Chishi said the project’s physical activities and construction started in April 2021 with a target of completing it within 36 months, while it was technically commissioned on 11th December, 2024. Mentioning that the project was completed with a total cost of ₹40.29 crores under the State Plan, he thanked the state government, Planning and Finance department for the smooth flow of funds. He also thanked the project and transmission line contractors for completing the project on time.

Retired chief engineer Penrithung Yanthan in his short speech said the completion of the project was a phenomenal achievement of the department of Power, for which, he appreciated the serving chief engineer (T and G) and his team for monitoring the progress of the project, the generation division and hydel division for their commitment, the contractors for delivering the quality work.

The inaugural event was chaired by chief engineer (D and R), Nitovi A Wotsa, while Baptist Church Poilwa Village pastor Kwedigwambe Zeliang offered prayers. A brief technical report was presented by additional chief engineer (Civil) Visakho Therie while the program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by additional chief engineer (D and R), Lobosang Jamir.
