As part of the state government’s firm enforcement of its ‘No Work, No Pay’ policy to impose administrative discipline and enhance workplace accountability, Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton continued to conduct surprise inspections across government offices in Wokha, the latest having been carried out on Friday.

The inspection commenced at the department of Rural Development, where Patton scrutinised attendance registers and physically verified staff presence. Out of the 31 employees listed, only 12 were present, while two were on approved leave. The rest were found absent without official sanction.

Taking immediate action, the Dy. CM ordered salary deductions for the absentees and directed that their names be forwarded to the district Deputy Commissioner for further disciplinary proceedings. Patton also ensured that employees marked present were at their respective workstations. Those unaccounted for, despite being marked as present, were also categorised as absent, with similar salary deductions instructed.

The inspection team then moved to the Power Department, where 28 employees were recorded, three were on sanctioned leave and one was absent without approval. Patton initiated the same action- day wage deductions for unauthorised absences, reinforcing the seriousness of the government’s attendance policy.

At the department of Economics and Statistics, of the 35 employed staff, two were found absent and one on approved leave. Addressing officials during the visit, Patton underscored the significance of punctuality, adherence to proper leave protocols, and daily attendance as fundamental aspects of public service ethics.

“All employees are expected to attend office regularly. Leave must be officially applied for and approved in advance,” he stated firmly, adding that further surprise inspections would be conducted in the coming months to ensure continued compliance.

During his visits, the Dy. CM also took time to interact with officials, listening to grievances and operational challenges faced by each department. He assured staff that legitimate concerns would be addressed and necessary follow-up actions initiated.
