The departments of English and Commerce of MGM College organized a transformative educational tour to Sikkim, focusing on the capital city Gangtok, from June 18-25.
A press release from the college principal Dr. RK Behera informed that the trip provided an exceptional opportunity for students to blend academic learning with real-world exposure, adventure, and cultural enrichment in the heart of the Eastern Himalayas.
The itinerary was planned to include a variety of educational and experiential activities and the group engaged with members of Sikkim’s diverse communities — Lepcha, Bhutia, and
Nepali — enabling meaningful cultural exchange and sociological understanding.
The educational takeaways for the touring team included geography and environment – deeper awareness of Himalayan geography, including glacial systems, endemic flora/fauna, and environmental sustainability; history and culture – enhanced appreciation of Sikkim’s unique religious heritage and multicultural social fabric; adventure and teamwork- treks and outdoor challenges nurtured team spirit, problem-solving, and resilience; personal development- the spiritually rich environment encouraged reflection, curiosity, and cultural sensitivity.
“The fusion of academic insight and experiential learning left an indelible mark on all participants. It stands as a testament to MGM College’s commitment to holistic education — one that extends beyond classroom walls to the mountains, valleys, and communities that shape our understanding of the world,” the principal stated.
