In compliance with the directives of its parent body Angami Public Organization and in alignment with the 5 Tribes Committee on Review of Reservation Policy (CoRRP)’s initiative, the Angami Students’ Union (ASU) announced that it is duty-bound to participate in the committee’s phase-II agitation in the form of a sit-in protest.
The sit-in protest is scheduled to be held on July 9 outside the Nagaland Civil Secretariat from 9:00 AM onwards.
In a circular, ASU requested all its constituent ranges to mobilize and depute a minimum of 200 members each to ensure a unified and impactful representation.
All the participants have been requested to reach the venue at 8:30 AM to facilitate smooth coordination and orderly proceeding.

“Your cooperation and timely response in this collective cause will be deeply appreciated as we uphold our commitment to the shared concern of our people,” ASU notified its four constituent ranges- the Northern Angami Students’ Union, Southern Angami Students’ Union, Western Angami Students’ Union and Chakhroma Students’ Union.
The 5 Tribes CoRRP which includes the Ao, Angami, Sumi, Lotha and Rengma tribes announced on July 3 that they would go ahead with the second phase of protest as the state government has not been forthcoming and is yet to respond to the committee’s two core demands- to either scrap the existing Reservation Policy or to allocate the balance of unreserved quota to the five tribes. The phase-II stir of the CoRRP has been kept in abeyance since June 3 following the state government’s assurance to set up an independent commission to study the state’s current Reservation Policy which has been in existence for 48 years.
On July 2, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio appealed for patience as the commission tasked with reviewing the policy has a comprehensive mandate and would require time to submit its report. Rio also said that reforms regarding administration, reservation and delimitation would be done after the conduct of the national Census which is scheduled to start by 2027.
