The Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) has raised serious concerns over the mismanagement of teacher deployment in Government schools under Ongpangkong range.
The AKM conducted its fifth phase of school inspection and visitation under the jurisdiction of the Sub-Divisional Education Officer (SDEO), Ongpangkong from July 14 to 18.
While inspecting a total of 58 schools, the AKM team observed a widespread mismatch in the number of teachers posted across institutions, some facing acute shortages of subject teachers, while others were found to have an excess of staff.
Out of the 58 schools, 29 were found to have more teachers than required, including instances where a primary school (Classes A–5) had 16 teachers, and a high school (Classes A–10) had 30 teaching staff. In contrast, schools in remote and rural areas are struggling with teacher shortages, leading to ineffective
lassroom delivery.
Head Teachers (HTs) reported that this imbalance has become a serious administrative issue. In one case, a teacher transferred to a school in an urban area was not accepted by the Head Teacher because the school already had surplus staff.
Meanwhile, many rural schools remain neglected and understaffed.
Among the most concerning cases is Government Middle School (GMS) Aliba, where no Mathematics teacher has been posted since 2016. Despite repeated appeals from the School Management and Development Committee (SMDC) and the Village Council, no replacement has been provided to date. Similarly, GMS Mokokchung Town is facing a shortage of an English teacher, severely affecting learning outcomes.

The AKM appealed for immediate departmental intervention to resolve these issues and ensure equitable teacher distribution across schools. The student learning process, it emphasized, is being directly compromised due to such administrative lapses.
The organization further said a comprehensive report would be released after all schools are inspected, which would included teacher strength, student enrolment, teacher shortages, excess postings and their related grievances, based on which necessary actions would be initiated.
The AKM issued a stern warning against the use of substitute or proxy teachers in any form.
It asserted that such practices are unacceptable, and any school found violating this directive will face strict consequences and disciplinary action from the AKM office.
