DC Noklak calls for preservation of rich culture at CHS’ first Cultural Day

Christian High School (CHS) Noklak on Wednesday celebrated its Cultural Day 2022 at Lashiu campus with the theme ‘Our Culture – Our Roots’.

Deputy Commissioner Noklak, Hiazu Meru graced the occasion as the special guest.

In his speech, Meru said culture is defined by symbols, norms and values, and artifacts. He said Noklak has a rich cultural heritage and urged the people to preserve and pass it down to the younger generations.

The DC called for the revival of the ‘Morung’ system, the traditional institution of the Nagas where children and youths are taught about culture, traditions, rituals and practices and life skills. He also urged the children not to forgo their rich culture.

At the first Cultural Day of CHS, Khiamniungan Tribal Council Advisor P Pongom advised the youths to uphold the legacy of the ancestors. He acknowledged that it is a challenge in this age of technology, yet he exhorted the young people to carry their culture with them.

Shangjiu, president of Khiamniungan Students Union, too encouraged the students to be hardworking and focus on their goals.

The Noklak Town Cultural Club demonstrated the significance and meaning of culture by performing a cultural dance which many students joined with enthusiasm.

Christian High School Noklak is run by Khiamniungan Baptist Churches Association (KBCA). The school, which opened in 1983, is serving not just the community in Noklak but also the nearby villages in the neighbouring country of Myanmar. Many children come to CHS Noklak from across the border to receive quality education.
