Tseminyu to host NSF 31st general conference from Aug 27; election on Aug 29, MCC enforced

The 31st General Conference of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) will be held from August 27 to 30 at the RSA Ground in Tseminyu.

Informing this in a press conference in Kohima, Central Organising Committee (COC) convenor K Elu Ndang said the conference theme is “Resilience in Transition”. The four-day event will feature a panel discussion on “Youth as the Bridge to our Political Future” with Achumbemo Kikon, Nepuni Piku, Ningreichon Tungshang, and Dr. Lanusashi Longkumer as panellists.

On the first day, MP Lok Sabha S Supongmeren Jamir will be the introductory guest while minister Rural Development and SIRD Metsubo Jamir will be the inaugural guest.

The other special guests include Manipur MLA J Kumo Sha, deputy speaker Nagaland Legislative Assembly S Toiho Yepthomi, chairman IDAN Abu Metha and Arunachal Pradesh MLA Pradesh Laisam Simai. Tseminyu MLA Jwenga Seb will be the host.

Ndang also informed that North East Students organisation (NESO), Arunachal Students Union, Naga Students Organisation Myanmar and all NSF affiliated units from the Nagaland and neighbouring states will be attending the conference. The hosts are expecting around 1000-1500 delegates and officials.

NSF president Medovi Rhi informed that this year’s conference is being hosted by the Rengma Students’ Union. Co-convenor Kesosul Christopher Ltu called upon students to participate as the successive sessions and discussions will be helpful for students.

Meanwhile, the NSF election commission has announced that the general election to the executive council and assembly executives of the Naga Students’ Federation for the tenure 2025–2027 will be conducted on August 29 at 2 PM. The process of counting of votes and declaration of results shall be completed on the same day.

NSF election commission notifies MCC

A notification issued by the NSF election commission chairman Neizokhotuo Belho stated that in order to ensure the conduct of a free, fair and transparent election, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) will come into immediate effect and the same shall be binding on all intending candidates and members of the federating units. The notification also contained guidelines including – that no candidate shall be a registered member of any political party; campaigning or canvassing by any political party in favour of a candidate would be strictly prohibited; use of derogatory, defamatory/disparaging words, remarks or speeches against other candidates would be considered a serious offence; circulation of concocted stories, unverified information or distortion of events against other candidates shall constitute a serious offence; use of loudspeakers or similar devices for campaign purposes is prohibited; use of social media platforms for maligning, criticising, exposing private affairs or sharing objectionable images/videos of other candidates is prohibited; any attempt to influence voters by means of money, position, power or other inducements shall constitute a serious offence; candidates shall be held responsible to ensure that their supporters do not obstruct or disrupt

meetings or campaigns organised by other candidates; organising of public meetings by candidates during the conference is prohibited; electioneering or campaign activities during conference hours/sessions is prohibited; election processions or demonstrations of any kind are strictly prohibited; soliciting votes or favours by offering alcohol, intoxicants, or any other immoral inducement would constitute a serious offence; intimidation, threat or coercion of any form shall amount to violation of MCC.

It further cautioned that any violation of the provisions of the MCC would invite disciplinary action and/or penal measures as deemed appropriate by the election commission.
