Eight female athletes along with two officials, under the aegis of the Nagaland Tug of War Association (NTWA) have left to compete in the 38th National Tug of War Championship (Senior Women & Mixed 4+4) scheduled to be held at Shirdi, Maharashtra from August 22 to 25 August.
The Nagaland team includes Vikehenuo Zumvu (Captain), Vekhonielu Curhah, Haizuyile, Thejanienuo Thevo, Sezolu Luruo, Medongunuo Thevo, Neivi Metha and Keneithonuo Sanchu. The team will be led by manager Kuzhovesa Soho and coach Vemele Thingo.
The NTWA has participated for the first time in National Tug of War Championship in September 2023 at Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh and won Silver Medal in mixed category and also won Silver in under Catch Weight category in February 2025 at Palghar, Maharashtra.
As per the NTWA, the Nagaland women’s team is participating for the first time in the upcoming championship.

In a short send-off ceremony for the state’s women team, NTWA president Dr. Vekho Swuro conveyed his best wishes to the team and urged the team to strongly uphold the spirit of the sport with humility and enthusiasm.
He also expressed gratitude to Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio for sponsorship of the team. Swuro further acknowledged the 13th Assam Rifles Kohima Commandant, Col. Tarun Rana for providing logistic support. Since June 2025, the NTWA athletes were provided the ground for constant training, besides other requirements.
Chakhesang Baptist Church, Toulazouma, Ngutsolo Therie, pronounced a prayer for the team before their departure.
The Team is expected to return on August 27.
