In a breaking news, Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), 1973 has been imposed on Monday in certain areas in the districts of Peren and Chümoukedima.
These areas are – “Lamhai Namdi village and adjoining areas” in Peren district and “the highway stretch from Vihuto village – Khehoyi village – Kiyevi village and along the Chumoukedima – Peren Border Belt” in Chümoukedima district.
Deputy Commissioner of Peren district, Vineet Kumar, IAS, issued the order in the district “in view of the threat to public peace and tranquility.” Curfew has been imposed in the area and the order has prohibited assembly of more than five people or the carrying any form of “lethal weapons and arms”.
Meanwhile in the District of Chümoukedima, Commissioner of Police Rothihu Tetseo, IPS, issued the order being convinced that “there has been breach of Law & Order which may result in loss of human life and property” along the Chümoukedima-Peren area belt. The order states that as per Section 144, curfew will be imposed from noon on Monday. The order specified that “lethal weapons and firearms” include “lathis, dagger/ machete, sticks, spears, catapult or any other dangerous articles”.
Further, the Deputy Commissioner of Peren has also issued a travel advisory to travellers travelling via Molvom – Kiyevi – Mhainamtsi – Peren and Dimapur – Pimla – Peren due to the tense situation in the region.
