The Lotha community in Mokokchung celebrated Tokhü Emong on Monday at the Town Hall. This year’s programme marked the 56th Tokhü Emong celebration organised by Mokokchung Lotha Hoho (MLH).
E Etssimongo Ngullie, IPS, DIGP (Range), Mokokchung graced the occasion as the special guest.
Ngullie, in his address, explained the significance of “Tokhü Emong”. He stated that the nine-day fall festival is a post-harvest event honouring the culmination of the harvest season. Ngullie added that the festival is also a celebration of love, kindness and forgiveness and therefore urged the community to maintain love and unity amongst each other as well as with people around them.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police further urged the Lotha community to practise kindness and forgiveness.
In a brief exhortation, Dr. Phyobenthung Odyuo, Associate Professor at Fazl Ali College Mokokchung, emphasized the value of tradition and the importance of the mother tongue.
Lotha Students from Fazl Ali College and Clark Theological College, Aolijen, presented cultural songs at the programme which was chaired by Dr Renjano Okhyopvui, Junior Specialist (Eye), Dr Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH).
