Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, lauded the role of teachers as the “backbone and foundation of society.” He urged teachers never to be discouraged even if their efforts go unrecognized at times, stressing that “teaching is divine in nature, spiritually beyond measurement, and its true success lies in the lives of young people shaped by teachers.”
He said that while infrastructure and facilities are important, what truly matters is the values instilled in students by teachers. Highlighting the rapidly changing world and the realities of a global village, he encouraged teachers to orient themselves to new systems and adapt to the evolving psychology of children. “Future education must take these aspects into account for the betterment of society,” he remarked.
The DC further emphasized that teachers are not confined to schools alone but carry multiple responsibilities, including preserving traditional knowledge. He acknowledged the challenges faced by educators, especially those serving in the remotest parts of the district and state, but assured that with the support of the department, such challenges can be overcome.
Mokokchung “a land of pioneers,” he noted that the district has achieved much in the field of education but must continue to reassess and re-evaluate progress in order to face emerging challenges in the modern world. “Today’s celebration is an occasion to recognise and pay respect to teachers, who play a crucial role in shaping individuals, society, and the community at large,” he said.

Verma reminded teachers that their motivation and perseverance, even in the most difficult times, will be the real measure of success.
“Teachers have the power to transform lives, and the seeds you sow today will define the future of the district’s education and society as a whole,” he said.
In her address, DEO Sentinenla congratulated the district and state awardees and informed that the
Chief Minister has launched Mission SOAR (Systems for Outstanding Achievements and Reformation) , which includes the introduction of music in the elementary section from this year. She said this initiative would bring new responsibilities to teachers and urged them to continue working with dedication and adaptability to meet evolving educational needs.
Speaking on the significance of the day, she remarked that Teachers’ Day is not only a celebration but also an opportunity to reflect on the role of teachers as nation-builders, recalling the vision and values of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan.
She emphasized that teaching is more than a profession—it is a calling that shapes both the minds and characters of students. “Teachers are the bridge between the past, present and future. Their legacy is not measured by titles or accolades but by the lives touched and transformed,” she said.
The DEO further urged educators to ignite curiosity in students, serve as role models of integrity, and guide with patience and empathy. She expressed gratitude to teachers across the district for carrying their responsibilities with sincerity, often beyond the classroom, to nurture and inspire young minds.
“The seeds you plant today may take years to bloom, but they will grow into trees that shelter and nourish generations—that is the power and privilege of being a teacher,” she concluded.
The programme was chaired by Temsusenla Jamir, District Project Assistant, NECTAR-The Lighthouse.
Invocation was pronounced by Imlitola, Head Assistant, DEO Mokokchung while vote of thanks was delivered by Tarepkaba, Sr. Sub-Divisional Education Officer, Mokokchung.
