Meluri District Teachers’ Award held at Meluri, Kiphire

The Meluri District Teachers Award ceremony was held at EBRC Hall, SDEO Office, Meluri on September 5.

As the special guest, DC Meluri, K Mhathung Tsanglao (NCS) expressed the day as the most special day for the teachers and, more importantly, the first-ever District Award Ceremony in Meluri District. He extended his appreciation and acknowledged the teachers’ devotion and contributions to the students. He said the gathering is not just to felicitate but to celebrate a normal profession, that makes the foundation of every society, every community and every nation.

He said teachers are the builders of character, the transmitters of knowledge and the silent shapers of future generations. He also appealed to the teachers, not only to contribute to education but also to drive community empowerment, social upliftment and economic progress to strengthen the bond between Schools, families and Communities.

SDEO Meluri, Kaitunchap Newmai, in his greeting message extended his appreciation for the first-ever Meluri District Teachers’ Award ceremony and congratulated the two awardees namely, Leylüsang Leyri, Primary Teacher, GPS Laruri and Thimu, Primary Teacher, GPS Zhipu.

He also congratulated Rhoshutho Nyuthe, Primary Teacher, GPS Meluri Town, who is one of the awardees of the Nagaland State Teachers Award 2025. SDEO Meluri appealed to the teachers to work harder, dream bigger and build a bright future for the children of Meluri District as a whole.

Earlier, Rev Tivisie Pojar, Pastor of Baptist Church Meluri Town pronounced the Invocation while the welcome Address and Vote of Thanks were delivered by Thsuchuvi Nyusou, ToT, EBRC Meluri and Luchuzo LDA SDEO office Meluri respectively. The programme was chaired by Imnatangit Jamir, LDA cum Computer Assistant SDEO office Meluri.

Kiphire:

At Kiphire, Teachers’ Day Celebration was held at Hopongkyu Memorial Hall, Kiphire with  Dr Phyobenthung, Principal of ZPGC as the Special Guest on September 5.

The Special Guest paid tributes to all the teachers saying that serving as a teacher is both a privilege and a responsibility, and urged teachers to be very sincere and careful to set an example for others to follow their good deeds. He also emphasised the importance of Teachers’ Day, as teachers are the beacons of guidance who influence our journey far beyond the classroom who instil knowledge, values and life skills that help us learn, grow and transform into our best selves.

He said Teachers’ Day is observed to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the second philosopher and an educationalist dedicated to teachers, in the role of a president, an educationalist, an academic and a leader.

He also highlighted, quoting the example of the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, who became the Prime Minister from Chaiwala (Tea-Seller) through hard work as there is no shortcut in education and success. Only through consistent hard work and dedication will there be success, he said adding, true success requires resilience, commitment, and sustained efforts to overcome challenges and achieve long-term goals.

He also urged the students to avoid unhealthy eating habits, to be obedient, focus on studies, resist temptation, control their thoughts and have self confidence to achieve their goals.

Officials and Staff from the Education Department Kiphire, led by I Chuba Aier, District Education Officer Kiphire, organised the program which was graced by Teachers and Students from both government and private Schools under Kiphire.

T Lirila Sangtam, Assistant District Education Officer Kiphire, delivered the welcome address. A short speech was delivered by Major Senthil Kumar A 41 Assam Rifles Kiphire, whereas, Chungrila Mongzar from Loyola Higher Secondary School Kiphire delivered a speech on behalf of the students.

Three Teachers who were honoured with the District Teacher’s Award are Sonal Yimchunger, Graduate Teacher, GHSS Pungro; K.Aliba Sangtam, Graduate Teacher, GHSS Phelungre; and S.Kiutsumong Primary Teacher, GHS Yangphi, Kiphire.

Students from both Government and Private Schools took part actively in honouring the Teachers through songs, poems, choreography and cultural performances. The comperes of the programme were Tikehba & Litila A. Jinger, Saramati View Modern School Kiphire.
