District Water and Sanitation Mission Committee meeting held at Kiphire

Meeting on District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM) Committee Kiphire, was held at the Office Chamber of the Deputy Commissioner Kiphire, on September 9.

Chairing the program Deputy Commissioner & Chairman, DWSM, Temsuwati Longkumer NCS, Kiphire, welcomed all the DWSM Committee members from various departments in the meeting. The Deputy Commissioner said that Kiphire being an Aspirational District many projects/schemes are being provided from the Centre. So he urged the members to maintain transparency with dedication while implementing the schemes and projects in various departments.

The meeting deliberated on the progress review of ongoing programmes of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in household tap connections, Coverage, and functional status; Status of Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM – G) -ODF sustainability; Review of rain water harvesting projects and ground water recharge works. Review of convergence activities with line departments (MGNREGS), Agriculture, PHED, Rural Development.

It also discussed about the preparation of Village Action Plans (VAPs) and their integration into the District Action Plan and prioritized on water – stressed villages and measures for drinking water security; ensuring equity and inclusion for coverage of vulnerable groups, marginalized communities, and far flung, habitations strategies for summer preparedness and tackling seasonal water scarcity.

The meeting also stressed on states of water quality testing labs, at district/block – level and village water testing kits; Action taken for arsenic/fluoride/iron contamination or other water quality issues; sustainability measures – source strengthening, Catchment protection,and spring rejuvenation.

It also emphasized on training of Village Water & Sanitation Committee ( VWSCs) Pani Samitis; Awareness generation campaigns on safe water use, hygiene, sanitation, and hand washing; IEC activities under SBM – G and JJM.

The meeting reviewed O & M mechanism for piped water supply schemes; Role of Gram Panchayats and WATSANs in O&M.

It also reviewed funds received under JJM, SBM – G, and others related schemes; Expenditure incurred, pending UCs, and bottlenecks in fund flow; Discussion on mobilizing CSR support for water and sanitation infrastructure.

The meeting further reviewed MIS/data entry status on IMIS portals (JJM/SBM) and reviewed third – party verification and monitoring reports; grievance redressal and feedback from villages.

The meeting also deliberated on special issues like emergency response measures for disease outbreaks linked to water contamination and specific directions from State Water & Sanitation Mission.

DC & Chairman DWSM Kiphire reminded the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and Kiphire Town Ward Chairman to locate and overseas the natural sufficient sources of water at rivers and lakes to report it in the next meeting.

The program concluded with vote of thanks from the Chair.
