The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Nagaland University hosted a “Photography Exhibition cum Competition” on the theme of “Through the Lens: Capturing Moments” at I Ihoshe Kinimi Hall on September 12.
The Chief Guest for the occasion was Er Yarenthung Ezung, COE, Nagaland University. In a welcome address, Dr. Arjun Das, Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, talked about photography arts and how powerful this photography competition was because it brought many people together from different states showcasing their cultures and skills. He also mentioned that this was the first photography exhibition by the department.
Guest speaker, Subhamoy Bhattacharjee, an Independent Photojournalist, Media Educator and Researcher, traced the beginning of photography to the cave arts, and expounded on the developments right up to the contemporary world.
He stated that photography has changed the mindset of people, exploring the world with different emotions. In today’s changing world, photography has become an important tool of communication with significant contribution both in time, life and national geography, he added.

He said photography has also evolved with the development of science and technology, with the latest addition being AI posing significant challenges for photographers.
Chief Guest Er Yarenthung Ezung thanked and encouraged the department to make the programme a regular annual feature. Quoting that a picture speaks thousand of words, he expressed delight and eagerness for the program and future photography opportunities.
A musical interlude featured a duet performance by Deisica Snaitang and Deiphibanniewkor Babai. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Wapangsungla, Guest Faculty, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication.
Following the formal programme, was the Photograph Exhibition, which was inaugurated by Er Ezung. The event showcased photographic talent and celebrated visual storytelling.
