“Due to the risk of high precipitation in the hill sector, Nagaland’s lowland and foothill districts, including Dimapur, Niuland, Chumoukedima, Bhandari, Baghty, Tizit, and Tuli, are

vulnerable to inundated waterlogging and flash floods,” the NSDMA stated. In this regard, the low-lying districts have been requested to implement the following precautionary measures in light of the current flood situation- keep valuable documents and item in safe locker to prevent loss and damage; evacuate low lying areas if advised by authorities; avoid food that may have come in contact with flood water; avoid entering flood waters or driving through flooded areas; disconnect and place electrical appliances off ground level; boil water before drinking or use chlorinated water; be alert to any open drain holes or flood channels.

The NSDMA further requested all the District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) and other line departments to remain on high alert to safeguard lives and property during the monsoon season.

For any emergencies, citizens have been asked to contact State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC): Toll Free 1070, 112 (ERSS for Disaster Management), 0370-2291120/ 0370-2291122.
