Rain wreaks havoc across Nagaland; NSDMA releases damage assessment report

The extreme monsoon weather occurrences in the past week from September 8 to 14 have caused widespread damages throughout Nagaland.

The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has on Monday confirmed reports of damages to houses, roads, bridges and paddy fields in different districts.

As per the NSDMA, Chümoukedima district reported heavy damages from several locations including the road along the Tsiedukhru “Pagla Pahar” stretch (CH126) which was washed away by mudslide, cutting off the Kohima-Dimapur National Highway completely. Other damage reports from the district included heavy mudslides at Old Chümoukedima Check Gate; several houses affected due to the rising of water level in Chathe River; bridge between Chümoukedima and Seithekema completely destroyed; flooding in Chümoukedima Ward 10, TL Angami Park and Virazouma village; landslide along New Chümoukedima bypass road; and water logging in Army Camp, Shokhuvi

In Shamator district, landslide was reported at ADC Ward Road damaging the fencing

wall of BSNL tower posing a threat of communication line disruption.

In Peren district, landslide occurred between Saijang village and Mangleu bridge while multiple landslides were also reported along Shokhuvi-Pimla-Mhainamtsi road where clearance of debris were carried out. 11 houses were also reported to have been affected

at Bana ward, Peren, Old Peren Town, the NSDMA stated.

In Meluri district, major mudslide occurred at “16 Kilo”, leaving travellers stranded. It was also reported that Mercy Bridge is on the verge of collapsing and has been declared unsafe; mudslide along Akhewgo road was reported disrupting the traffic movement.

In Dimapur district, flooding and water logging was reported from Vilhume colony, SM

colony, East Police colony, Namgalong colony, Ragailong colony and Kuda village.

In Kohima district, several landslide incidents were reported to have occurred on Kigwema-Mima-Chakhabama road, Kehorii (NH-29) Jakhama, Jotsoma-Khonoma road, Viswema-Kidima-Pfutsero road, Tsiesema road, Phesama and Old KMC dumping site.

In Noklak district, road blockade was reported from Kingpao village and between Tsuwao

and Pathso while landslide occurred at Kusong village as well as near Zunki (Noklak -Nokhu); one kutcha house damaged by landslide at Danlepdong ward; and a temporary wooden bridge between Noklak and Lingnyu was washed away by flood.

In Tuensang district, the road between Angangba and Tuensang (NH202) was blocked by Landslide; road in Hakchang village completely cut off by landslide; the Longkhim road is also cut off by landslide.
