The Rengma Selo Zi (RSZ) and the Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) have on Tuesday underscored the urgent need for restoring and developing the Kohima–Dimapur road via Zhadima–Tsogin–Niuland.
In a joint statement, the two youth bodies stated that the said road which stands as the only viable alternative route connecting Kohima and Dimapur has long been neglected despite its immense utility.
“Unlike the main highway, the Zhadima–Tsogin–Niuland road has the potential to serve as an all-season road that can significantly ease the heavy traffic congestion between the state’s capital and commercial hub. However, its present deplorable condition has rendered it nearly unusable, causing immense hardships to commuters, transporters and the general public who depend on this route,” the statement said.

The RSZ and WSYF appealed to the concerned department to take cognizance of the matter and to immediately initiate measures for its restoration. They maintained that developing this road into a reliable all-weather road is not merely a matter of convenience but of necessity. “It will not only benefit Kohima and Dimapur but also provide lifeline connectivity to all inter-district commuters,” the organisations stated.
In this connection, the RSZ and WSYF demanded that the government, through its concerned department, prioritize the repairing, upgrading and preparing of the Zhadima–Tsogin–Niuland road without delay.
Stating that the public has long borne the brunt of administrative negligence on this matter, the youth bodies asserted that any further delay will only compound the hardships faced by travellers and villagers alike.
“The RSZ and WSYF reaffirm that this demand is raised in the interest of all communities who stand to benefit from this vital road connectivity. We urge the Government to act with urgency and restore this road to a serviceable standard at the earliest,” they added.
The statement was jointly signed by RSZ president Kegwayhun Tep and WSYF president Atokiho Sumi.
