5 Tribes CoRRP asks govt to change nomenclature of newly constituted Commission

The five tribes (Ao, Sümi, Angami, Lotha and Rengma) Committee on Review of Reservation Policy (CoRRP) on Wednesday asked the state government to rectify the nomenclature of the newly notified “Job Reservation Commission” so that the commission can review both reservation in jobs, and technical and professional seats.

In a statement, the committee stated that it partially welcomes the state government notification issued on 22nd September 2025 constituting the commission which was delayed for more than 100 days ever since the State Cabinet first agreed in principle to constitute a Commission on 12th June 2025.

However, the CoRRP noted that the notification which mentions “Job Reservation Commission” has deviated from the agreed points of June 3 meeting between the state government and 5 Tribes CoRRP, and also from the State Cabinet announcement on 6th Aug 2025 about setting up of Reservation Review Commission.

“We urge the state government to rectify the nomenclature as Reservation Review Commission along with terms of reference in accordance with the decision of June 3rd meeting to interlink and review both reservation in jobs and technical & professional seats,” the statement said.

Pending rectification by the state government, the committee asserted its September 20 resolution to go ahead with agitation after September 30 still stands. The CoRRP has on September 20 issued a 10-day ultimatum to the state government to set up a commission to review the state’s reservation policy, warning that it would resort to a total shutdown if the government failed to act within the stipulated time.
