Tuensang District Mental Health Program (DMHP) conducted a health camp at Longkhim Community Health Centre (CHC) on Wednesday to screen and create awareness on mental health and disorders among the younger generation. The team visited Baptist School and Government Higher Secondary School, Longkhim, engaging students in interactive sessions on the importance of mental well-being.
Addressing the students, Beigu Phom, Psychiatric Social Worker, highlighted the growing concerns around mental health and cited clinical psychologists’ prediction that by 2030, depression could become one of the leading causes of death. Stressing that mental health is as crucial as physical health, he urged students to openly talk about their mental state rather than allowing stigma to silence them.

Phom explained the causes, signs, and symptoms of mental illness, encouraging students to develop coping skills and learn how to manage stress effectively. He also informed them about professional support services available through the District Mental Health Program and introduced Tele Manas, a toll-free helpline (14416) that provides mental health assistance at any time.
The program concluded successfully with active participation from the students and an interactive session that allowed them to share experiences and seek guidance on managing mental health challenges.
