P Shilu Ao Memorial Indigenous Games cum 2nd Tug of War underway at Longjang village

Opening Programme of the two-day P Shilu Ao Memorial Indigenous Games Festival cum 2nd Tug of War Championship was held at Longjang Village, Mokokchung, graced by the ADC & Chief Executive Officer, MMC, Mokokchung, Atsungba Walling on November 7.

In his speech, Walling said, “Our society has been greatly influenced by the western culture but we need to follow and adapt to only those which are acceptable and relevant to our culture.

He said, “We should be cautious not to let the impact of western culture dilute our rich culture which has been passed down for generations.”

Appreciating the efforts of the Longjang Riongsanger Cultural Society for organizing such an event with the sole purpose of upholding and preserving the rich culture, Walling maintained that apart from this festival many things could be done in the future to honour Late P Shilu Ao.

He asserted that Late P Shilu Ao was not only the first Chief Minister of Nagaland but a patriot and a true son of the soil who gave his everything not only for his community alone but also for the people of Nagaland.

Barrick, Longjang Village Council, Imtinungsang Longchar, delivered the welcome speech, while a short speech was delivered by the President, Longjang Senso Mungdang, M Temjen Jamir. Longjang Riongsanger Cultural Society presented a Cultural song, followed by a display of different Indigenous Games.
