LS Speaker Om Birla arrives in Nagaland for CPA Conference

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla arrived Nagaland on Sunday to attend the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region, Zone III conference, scheduled to take place in Kohima from November 9 to 13.

Nagaland’s Minister for Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Jacob Zhimomi and Minister for Rural Development, Metsubo Jamir along with Deputy Commissioners of Dimapur and Chumoukedima, Dr Tinojongshi Chang and Polan John respectively received the Speaker

The Lok Sabha Speaker was also honoured with a Guard of Honour upon his arrival.

The theme for this year’s CPA conference is “Policy, Progress and People: Legislatures as Catalysts of Change”. The Speaker is the Chief Patron, while Nagaland’s Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio is vice-patron.

Delegates from eight Northeastern states will be participating in the conference.

The two-day Conference from November 10–11 will witness participation from Presiding Officers, MPs and MLAs of Zone III of CPA India Region consisting of 8 States of the Northeastern region. The theme of the Conference is “Policy, Progress & People: Legislatures as Catalysts of Change.”

The sub-themes of the conference will be: (i) Role of Legislatures in Achieving Viksit Bharat; and (ii) Climate Change – In the Light of Recent Cloudbursts and Landslides in Parts of the Northeast Region. The Closing Ceremony will be addressed by Harivansh, Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha, while the vote of thanks will be proposed by Thomas A Sangma, Speaker of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and Vice Chairman, CPA India Region Zone-III, and S Toiho Yeptho, Deputy Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
