Workshop on Tobacco Control held at Tseminyu

DC Tseminyu, Japheth Woch with officials and participants during a workshop on Tobacco Control for Stakeholders held at DC’s conference hall

An initiative of National Tobacco Control Program, Nagaland for State Level orientation workshop on tobacco control for stakeholders was held on November 26 at DC’s conference hall, Tseminyu with DC Tseminyu, Japheth Woch NCS as special guest.

In his address, the DC declared 8 Schools as Tobacco Free Schools in the District, namely – GHS Chunlikha, Jireh School Chunlikha, BHSS Tseminyu,GHSS Tseminyu, AG School Tseminyu, GHS Tseminyu, and GHS Sendinyu. The DC also launched Smoke-free campaign in the District Headquarter and declaration of Tobacco Free office in the District.

Deputy Director & State Nodal Officer NTCP, Dr. I. Simon Sumi, in his keynote address said the National Tobacco Control Program aims to strengthen COTPA 2003 and to promote Tobacco Free Schools, Offices and Public Places to support people who want to quit Tobacco and to build capacity of enforcement for staff, Teachers, Village Councils and community groups.

Highlighting the guidelines for Tobacco-Free Educational Institutions, Dr I Simon said District leadership is crucial as consistency in enforcement, documentation and community mobilization determines of NTPC success on the ground. Simon further stressed on Tobacco-Free Educational Institutions and Tobacco-Free offices supporting Tobacco Free Village declaration, continuing capacity building for enforcement and community group for ensuring strong convergence between Health, Police, Education, Municipal bodies, Church and Civil Society so that collective efforts translate into lasting change.

DTCC Consultant NTCP, Dr. Linoka Awomi address the legal provisions and policy preventing Minors access to Tobacco COTPA -2003, PECA 2019 and Juvenile Justice (JJ Act).

Joint Director & State Program Officer, National Oral Health Program, Dr. Reyosalu Lase chaired the program and also delivered the welcome address. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks pronounced by EAC Tseminyu, Molosangla Ozukum (NCS).
