Noklak organises its first Badminton Open Tournament

The Noklak District Badminton Association (NDBA) organised its first ever Annual Open Tournament 2025 at the Multi-Discipline Sports Stadium, Noklak, held from November 28–29. The landmark event brought 60 players competing in two categories: Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles. The tournament marked a historic sports milestone for Noklak district, marking a new beginning for organised sporting culture and opportunities in the region, and opening doors for the younger generation.

Special guest of the event,  Vice President, Khiamniungan Sports Council, Kheming,  shared his childhood memories of playing badminton, recalling how “picking up a shuttle was a golden privilege.”

He highlighted badminton as a sport that strengthens both physical and mental health, and also serves as a means of livelihood for those who pursue it seriously. He briefly narrated the roots of the sport when India first established its badminton framework, and emphasized that India has proudly participated in the Olympics.

He encouraged the young players by saying, “Today it is at the district level, tomorrow it will grow to the state level and even higher. Take it seriously.” He also stressed the importance of discipline in the life of every sportsperson.

Colonel Ghanender Pratap Singh, 32 Assam Rifles praised the efforts of NDBA for promoting badminton in the district. He urged players to develop the spirit of winning as well as the grace to accept defeat, and expressed gratitude to the organisers for the invitation.

NDBA President, Shin Shiu delivered the welcome address, congratulating all participating players and encouraging them to aim higher in their sporting journey. He also thanked the officials, volunteers, and supporters for their valuable contributions in making the event possible.

The tournament was kicked off with an exhibition match played between the District Administration Noklak and Khiamniungan Sports Council.

Winner : Ngoh Lam & Kushie K Khiamniungan

Runners up : Putso P & Dina Khiam

Men’s Doubles

Champions: Sekingchem Sangtam & Apuloka H Sumi

Runners up: Tekhie Kenye & Koi T

Earlier, the program was chaired by Dina, Vice President, NDBA, invocation by Thango K, Associate pastor, youth, NTBC, special number by Jamin C, oath taking by Sekingchem Sangtam, coach, NDBA.
