Lok Sabha MP, Supongmeren Jamir, has raised serious concerns regarding the acute administrative and operational crisis plaguing the public broadcasting institutions in Nagaland.
On December 1, 2025, under Rule 377 of the Lok Sabha, he brought to the notice of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting the dire staff shortages and the absence of full-time leadership at the Akashvani Kendra and Doordarshan Kendra in Kohima.
Data presented by the MP reveals a staggering gap between sanctioned posts and actual staffing. According to the data, at Akashvani Kendra Kohima, out of 260 sanctioned posts, only 90 are filled, leaving 170 positions vacant (65% vacancy) while at Doordarshan Kendra Kohima, the situation is equally alarming, with only 55 posts occupied against a sanctioned strength of 144, resulting in 89 vacancies (62% vacancy).
He also highlighted the complete absence of a full-time Head of Office (Station Director) at both Kendras.
According to a press release issued by NPCC, currently, administrative and operational control is being remotely managed by a Deputy Director General (DDG) based in Dibrugarh, Assam. This arrangement is severely hampering daily functioning, causing inordinate delays in decision-making, approvals, and effective supervision of broadcast activities and maintenance centres across Nagaland.
The NPCC stated that this administrative vacuum and the massive number of vacancies are undermining the core function of Prasar Bharati—to serve as a vibrant platform for Nagaland’s rich cultural heritage, linguistic diversity, and developmental narrative. The institutions, which are vital for national integration and local empowerment, are struggling to perform effectively.

Supongmeren Jamir emphasized that the lack of recruitment and the non-posting of key administrative and technical personnel, including Directors, Deputy Directors, and Engineering staff, is unacceptable.
The MP sought urgent intervention from the Ministry to immediately appoint full-time, dedicated Heads of Office for both Akashvani and Doordarshan Kendras in Kohima; expedite the filling of all sanctioned vacant posts to restore the functional capacity of these institutions; and address the specific shortage of technical staff, including Technical Assistants (TAs) and Junior Technical Assistants (JTAs), particularly at AIR Kohima and the Local Radio Station in Mokokchung.
Jamir has assured the people of Nagaland that he would persistently follow up on this matter with the concerned authorities until concrete steps are taken to strengthen these pivotal public service broadcasters.
He reiterated that a robust and fully staffed Akashvani and Doordarshan is not just an administrative necessity but a democratic imperative for the state.
