In view of the Christmas season, the New Ministers’ Hill Taxi Parking Union, also known as Mohonkhola Taxi Parking, organized a free taxi service in and around Kohima on December 22, operating from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The initiative was undertaken as a gesture of goodwill and service to the public, reflecting the spirit of sacrifice and sharing during Christmas. Taxi parking point was located at New Ministers’ Hill and Mohankhola, from where commuters could avail free rides across Kohima Town.

Speaking on the occasion, Natong, ANTA Member, expressed happiness over the initiative, calling it “a moment of great joy.” He said the effort by the New Ministers’ Hill Taxi Parking Union to serve the public, even for a single day, was commendable, especially during the eve of Christmas. He added that such acts of sacrifice deserve appreciation and blessings.

Natong further stated that taxi unions across Kohima and other areas should consider similar initiatives in the future. He expressed hope that the All Nagaland Taxi Association (ANTA) would continue to encourage such good deeds, while also urging the public to cooperate. On behalf of the ANTA office, he conveyed Christmas and New Year greetings to all taxi owners, drivers, and the general public.

Sharing details of the initiative, Bikram, a taxi driver, said that although a free taxi service had been planned earlier, it could not be implemented. However, this year, drivers collectively decided to fix December 22 as the day to provide free taxi services around Kohima Town . He thanked the ANTA President and members, especially its president Solo, for accepting the proposal and offering encouragement.

Bikram also acknowledged the support of passengers and taxi owners, stating that drivers earn their livelihood because of the public’s trust. He informed that while the junction has 24 taxis, some had already left for their villages, and the remaining taxis participated in the free service. He added that the initiative was carried out with approval from the New Ministers’ Hill Panchayat, which had given its green signal.

The initiative was widely appreciated by commuters as a meaningful contribution toward spreading festive cheer and community spirit during Christmas. Some few taxis from different junctions were also seen giving free rides across Kohima town.
